As we all like to get away for Memorial Weekend, I decided to go take a day trip to Block Island to kick start my summer. To my surprise, the first time I traveled to Block Island was last year. Having grown up in New England and still living in the area, you would’ve thought I’d been there a number of times. So after visiting last year, I fully regretted not going more over the years. I’m now trying to make a habit and go at least once during the summertime. What’s great about the cute quaint island is it’s small and you can see a lot in one day (score). I would’ve loved to stay a weekend but with my busy schedule and saving for a big trip this Fall, a day trip was perfect
My boyfriend, parents and I took the 9:00AM ferry out of Point Judith in RI and got to the island by 10:00AM. Our trip started with going right to the Moped shop to pick out our bikes. We registered a couple of days before and it saved us a lot of time. Last year, we rented bikes and didn’t get to see all of the Island (although it was a great workout). In order to see the majority of the Island before catching our 5:00PM ferry back, we decided to switch it up with the Mopeds. And we were off!
I’m so glad we decided to choose the Mopeds because I felt like we transported over to Europe and were riding through the countryside. Block Island is full of beautiful landscape, breathtaking views of the ocean and farmland. I can definitely see why people live here year round and vacation here in the summer.
After having the Mopeds for 4 hours and seeing the whole Island, we had about 3 hours to eat a late lunch and wander around the shops. We ate at Harbor Side Inn which over looks the ocean and docked boats. While cruising through the Island we spotted The Oar – serves seafood, sushi and steak located on the Marina at the Boat Basin. We ran out of time, but I would have loved to stop there. The restaurant was packed with happy customers.
Block Island was the perfect day trip to get me in the summer mood and inspired more than ever for the rest of the season.
