I’m excited to share that we’re making some larger and smaller apartment decor changes in 2020! We won’t be buying a house for another year. Therefore, I want to focus on purchases and design concepts that keep us excited to stay in an apartment – but will also transfer easily to a house.
So right now, I’m planning out all of our ideas that we have (which could easily change) and mapping out when we can purchase new items or utilize what we already have. As I’ve said in my 2020 post, I want to organize and learn how to become better with finances. Which means, the inner planner in me has come out to play. For this blog post, I’m sharing a few of my ideas I want to add to the apartment for this first quarter of the year. Here we go!
BEFORE PICS
LARGER ITEMS
First up is removing the world map canvas painting, as seen in the top picture. We got this piece at Lowes 3 years ago (no joke) when we first moved in and we were on a tight budget. I’ve outgrown the look of it for our living room space, so I want to move the canvas painting into our spare bedroom. We’ve already moved our golden lamp (similar one here) to that room, so the gold hues between both pieces will go really well. I’ll share pictures once it’s all done!
That leaves me to talk about what’s going to replace the painting….. (drum roll) a maple wooden floating shelf! We’ve been dreaming about utilizing that space even more so and with the floating shelf, that’s exactly what we can do. I want to put up pictures, small vases, plants, candles, etc., so I can start to play with a soft color pallet. I’m so excited! We should get the shelf at the end of the month so stay tuned on the progress of it!
Some other items we want is a tall bookshelf in the back right corner of our living room (see the second picture for reference). That spot needs some decoration love, plus I’m running out of space with where we currently have our books within our coffee table.
Lastly, we want to get a new side table for the living room. We’re currently using a black old Ikea table and it reminds me of college furniture too much. I really like the look of a modern Scandinavian piece, especially because we have carpet floors. I need a side table that has slimmer lines to balance out the aesthetic of carpet.
HERE ARE MY CHOICES:
SMALLER ITEMS
For smaller items, I want to change up accent pieces like throw blankets, baskets and other organization items. I still have a lot of smaller decor pieces that I’ve had since our first apartment and while they’ve serve a purpose, it’s time to go! I’d love to get new throw blankets that add texture and lightness. I also want elevate the look of our trash bins since we don’t have the nicest floors in our apartment. And because trash bins should look aesthetically pleasing too!
HERE ARE MY CHOICES:
I may or may not purchase everything within the next three months, but picking out the items helps me feel more in control of my purchases. Can’t wait to show the finish product!
xx
